Kahoko Hino (日野 香穂子, Hino Kahoko) is the main protagonist of the series. She is a second year student at Seiso Academy and a member in the General Education department.
Appearance[]
Kahoko is a beautiful teenage girl with shoulder-length red hair that has bangs hanging on the left side and light brown eyes.
She is seen wearing two outfits:
- When performing, she is usually seen wearing a red long strapless dress.
- When not performing, she is usually seen in her school uniform.
Personality[]
Kahoko is a kind, warm, friendly, honest, considerate and straightforward girl who isn't afraid to put others' feelings before her own and she usually appears as a normal easy-going Gen-Ed student, but she reveals a more serious side by expressing that she can't be the one who's not serious.
She also has strong determination and confidence, but she is very humble and hates to show off where she slacks off most of the time and prioritizes the competition even more than her grades in school. She remains oblivious throughout the story to the attention of the males surrounding her.
Plot[]
In Episode 1, Kahoko arrives late and meets a strange little being: a fairy. Kahoko is not reassured and is convinced that she has dreamed, but the fairy is indeed in front of her. The latter expresses a lot of joy because few, if any, people can see it. Her name is Lili, but Kahoko refuses to believe that fairies exist and joins her class. Arriving in class, her friend Nao tells her the story of Violin Romance. Then Lili reappears and announces that a surprise awaits her. Some time later, the speaker announces the candidates selected to participate in the Seisô intra-school musical tournament. It is at the end that she suddenly hears her name! Distraught, she runs to see the professor organizing the competition, Hiroto Kanazawa, and tells him that this can only be a mistake. In reality, she does not know how to play a musical instrument so did not participate in the auditions, and yet, she was selected! The professor therefore explains that it is because she is the only one to have seen him (speaking of Lili). Very upset, she meets two contestants, Kazuki Hihara and Azuma Yunoki, in the third year in the musical section. They ask her which instrument she plays but leaves saying that it is only a mistake.
Alone, Kahoko sees Lili again, and without giving her a choice, the latter brings up a magic violin that "any person can play" without even taking lessons and gives it to Kahoko. At first, she refused to play it or even use it. However, she changes her mind when she hears the sound of the violin for the first time: The Ave Maria by Schubert played by Len Tsukimori.
Background[]
Kahoko quickly became famous among the students of Seiso Academy when she entered the competition.
Etymology[]
- The name Kahoko means "incense ear" (香穂) (kaho) and "child" (子) (ko).
- Part of the name Kaho can also mean "fragrance, fragrant" (香) (ka) and "grain" (穂) (ho) separately.
- Kahoko's surname Hino means "sun, day" (日) (hi) and "field, wilderness" (野) (no).
- Like her other potential love interests in Kin'iro no Corda 1&2 and her counterpart Kanade Kohinata in Kin'iro no Corda 3&4, Kahoko's family name has the hi 日 part, corresponding to the Sun, the center of Solar system.
Trivia[]
- Kahoko was given a violin by the fairy Lili for being able to see him.
- Kahoko lives with her mother, her older sister and her older brother, but nobody knows who her father is because there is no evidence.
